What is Cisplatin and how is it used?

Cisplatin is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of cancer in the testicles (Metastatic Testicular Tumors), bladder (Advanced Bladder Cancer) and ovaries (Metastatic Ovarian Carcinoma). Cisplatin may be used alone or with other medications.

Cisplatin belongs to a class of drugs called Antineoplastics, Alkylating; Antineoplastics, Platinum Analog.

What are the possible side effects of Cisplatin?

Cisplatin may cause serious side effects including:

• pain, burning, redness at the injection site,
• numbness, tingling, coldness or blude discoloration of the hands of feet,
• pain, redness, swelling of arms or legs,
• loss of reflexes,
• loss of balanced,
• trouble walking,
• muscle cramps or spasms,
• weakness,
• neck or back pain,
• mouth or tongue sores,
• joint pain,
• swollen legs or feet,
• mood changes,
• headache,
• fast or irregular heartbeat,
• blood in urine,
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds,
• black or bloody stools,
• painful or difficult urination,
• lower back or side pain,
• vision changes (seeing colors differently), and

blurred vision

Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

The most common side effects of Cisplatin include:

• nausea,
• vomiting (may be severe),
• diarrhea,
• temporary hair loss,
• loss in ability to taste food,
• hiccups,
• dry mouth,
• dark urine,
• decreased sweating,
• dry skin, and
• other signs of dehydration

Tell the doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.
